This book is about three quite extraordinary Baudelaire siblings who become orphans after they lose their house in a big fire. They don't even have a time to let themselves grieve for their parents properly. They have to follow Mr. Poe who is commissioned to find them a new home among the nearest living relatives. What an unpleasant surprise it is for them to find out that they are about to live in a dilapidated house with horrid Count Olaf whom they never heard about in their entire lives...
“The worst surroundings in the world can be tolerated
if the people in them are interesting and kind.”
This was the first time I read The Bad Beginning and I completely adored it. Lemony Snicket has a really unique way of storytelling. He addresses the reader as if they were friends. And his amazing humor makes the very sad and scary story absolutely enchanting and highly entertaining. I also absolutely loved the the way he played with the words. It was so clever and funny. I can imagine that I would have been head over heels in love with the story when I was little. But there is no need for me to be unhappy that I hadn't known about it then, for the book is perfect for adults just as well as for kids. I enjoyed it thoroughly. And I can't wait to read another book in the series.
